I was recently invited to do a taste off with Arbys chicken salad and Subways chicken salad. I wasa little nervous about this to be honest because I generally tend to shy away from Chicken Salad from “fast food” type places.
I had the Subway one and really did not like the taste of it. It seemed like it was all one taste and there was not really a whole lot of flavors and I am not a huge fan of cranberries and that was an overwhelming flavor in the sub. It did not look very appealing to the eye and I am such a picky eater if something looks like it was already eaten there is a good chance I am not going to be interested haha. There was no color at all, even the cranberries were so covered in mayo they appeared white rather then red. Lee did not mind it and said he would eat it again but I can honestly say I will not be buying another one of those again it is just not for me. The picture in the ad is misleading which I guess happens but I somehow expected more, my lettuce was not as vibrant and the rest of my sandwich was all one color, I did not get tomatoes because I don’t like them. The Orchard Chicken Salad sub is the $5 foot long for the month of May.
Arby’s has always been a favorite for me but when I think of Arby’s I think of beef and cheddar sandwiches and baked potatoes or curly fries. I had never really thought of trying one of their sandwiches but because of this challenge I am pretty sure I will be trying it again and again. At first I will admit the thought of pecans, apples and red grapes in my chicken sandwich was a little off putting but because I took the challenge I made myself try it. I really loved it. The tastes were all there and not all mushed together like subway, the pieces of chicken were nice and big so I could actually taste/feel the chicken in my mouth, the pecans were crunchy and even the lettuce had a nice crunch. The whole wrap tasted fresh because it is made fresh daily. I did go with the wrap rather then the sandwich but that is only because I am not a fan of bread and so this was the best route for me as I love wraps and feel they are easier to eat on the go but I have taken time to read other reviews and the honey wheat bread appears to be quite tasty too, I will get Lee to taste it and let you all know at a later date what he thought, or even better yet keep reading because one of my lucky readers is going to get a chance to win an Arbys gift card to try themselves so perhaps we can get an outside opinion as well. In the end taste, appeal, looks, price and flavor all went to Arbys for me and while I do love subway for a ham sub I don’t foresee me trying the chicken salad again I will leave that taste bud pleaser to Arby’s
