Car seat safety is a hot button issue with me. Making sure my children are in the best seats I can give them to keep them safe is on the top of my priority list. When we bought our second vehicle it meant getting a second set of car seats for the kids to ride in. Holden already had a Britax that we absolutely loved so I knew that for Maddisyn a Britax was the seat we were going to want, it was just a matter of choosing one for her that would last her quite some time since she is already getting up there in weight although not really much since she is 4 and only weighs 36 lbs.
After spending a lot of time browsing the site, doing the research and reading reviews I decided that the Britax Frontier 85 was the right choice for us. It allows her to be harnessed up to 85 lbs but is also usable as a booster seat without the harness from 40-120 lbs so I know it will last her for quite some time, I am still trying to figure out how we will fit her wedding dress in the seat when she gets married but I have some time for that haha. I let Maddisyn look at the different fabric options with me and we finally decided on the Livia fabric.
The Frontier 85 is an outstanding seat with so many safety features it makes me wish they came in my size too. It has true side impact protection which distributes the crash force and protects the kids from vehicle intrusion while containing the head and body and keeping the neck, spine and body aligned for minimum damage during a collision. Probably one of my favorite features is that it has a quick adjust no re-thread harness that allows me to adjust the height of the harness by simply lifting a lever on the back of the seat and moving it up and down.
The Frontier 85 has energy-absorbing foam liner, energy-absorbing base, high density comfort foam and even the seat cover is lined with foam for extra comfort but to also keep your child in place better. There are armrests and built in cup holders on the seat as well which Maddisyn absolutely loves.
The Britax Frontier 85 is equipped with the latch system making it easy to strap the car seat in and to transfer it to my car or my mother in laws van quickly since they are all latch compatible. It also has an energy absorbing versa-tether which clips onto a spot on the back of my seats and slows the car seats forward movement in the case of an accident helping to keep the kids that much more protected. The color coded belt guides let me know where the lap and shoulder belts should go when I am strapping it in that way in non-latch vehicles.
When I am not using the seat with the harness my first thought was oh no do I have to store the harness somewhere and risk losing it, but Britax has thought of everything and there is a spot on the back that you can safely store the harness so it is always with your seat, that way when you need them next there is no hunting and risk of loss.
The Frontier 85 retails for $299.99 and is worth every penny you would spend on it, especially since it can be used for so very long with your child.
