Keep in touch and keep track with Moby Smartphone App

Knowing where my family is at all times is extremely important to me.  I could get a lo-jack type system for them or make them wear ankle bracelets but that is not nearly as pretty or as practical as simply using our phones.  Thanks to Moby I can keep track of where everyone is without the need to call or text them a million times.

To share your location with someone you simply open the Moby app and turn on location sharing.  You can then choose who you want to share your location with, no worries if your friend does not have an iphone or an ipad they will get your notifications via text.  You can then share your location for a set amount of time with a certain person.  It is very simply to use and in just a few short seconds I am able to let me husband or kids track me for the set amount of time, so if I am sending chase out to play with his friends etc. and tell him to be home at a certain time we can just turn on the app and set the length of time between departure and arrival and this way I will know where he is and if he is late I can go kick his butt home 🙂

Moby has been developed by Contigo, a company based in Santa Monica, California and Vancouver, Canada. We are leaders in GPS and location-based services for asset tracking, fleet management, and life safety applications. We have over 8 years of experience in these markets, and originally started the company with the vision to eventually launch a consumer safety service like Moby.  Our expertise is in creating highly secure, highly reliable web and cell phone based applications utilizing GPS and other advanced location technologies. Our solutions are in use throughout North America, and are sold by leading wireless carriers and other branded companies you would know… if we could tell you! Every day we process millions of location points for our customers through our high-availability, redundant server infrastructure.

If you are headed to the mall on a big family outing or even to an amusement park this would be the perfect way for one person to go ride this while another goes here and another goes there.  You can check in and co-ordinate your meet ups with ease and less worry about losing someone in a crowded place.  Best of all with Moby you can alert each other instantly if there is an emergency that you need help with or that will delay you in anyways.

All in all I think this is probably one of the best apps I have on my phone and I cannot wait to see it come out on the Android platform in the next few months with the ability to share between Android and iPhone so that Lee and I can use it together but for now I am content with letting him know my location when I am out of the house on one of those rare occasions I do actually get out haha.  To get notified when the app is available on Android you can go ahead and pre-register to receive an email update.

You can connect with Moby via Twitter or Facebook.  I also recommend you check out the YouTube videos which show other important information about Moby as well as videos to show how to quick check in, private location sharing and just sharing location in general.

This sounds awesome. I have a daughter who is 15 and will be driving in 3 months. She and hubby both have iPhones so we’re good there. I have a Droid so I am going right now to sign up to be notified when it’s available for the Android system. Thanks for the great tip.

I saw this yesterday. The part I don’t understand is if my son would have to answer me to let me know where he is at, or would the phone just automatically send me updates? Anyone know?

    • Hi Won,
Your son will have to tap on a button within Moby to respond to your check-in, which will send his exact GPS location. If he chooses to he can add a personalized message along with his check-in. He can also share his location for a set-period of time, that way you will be able to see his up-to-date location within Moby’s interactive map, without him having to check-in.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any further questions about Moby.
      Have a great day!
