When I had Chase I opted not breastfeed him I was young and knew nothing about breast feeding except that it was not something for me. My mother did not breastfeed me or my siblings so I didn’t know any different and we were all fine and smart on formula. Then when I had Blake a couple years later I decided I wanted to try to breast feed but he ended
up quite sick in the hospital, I had another young child and I was trying to finish high school so that idea quickly went out the door.
When Maddiysn was born I again knew I was going to try and the same with Holden. In both cases I did ok nursing but we did have to supplement with formula because I didn’t make enough milk and I was unable to pump enough due to a really cheap breast pump. Now with Kinley I am facing the same milk issues but not the same pump issue, I have the Lansinoh Affinity Double Electric Breast Pump now and I am in love.
I received it and couldn’t wait to tear into the box and get it ready for the first try out. First and foremost it is small, lightweight and portable that is huge for me. I can take it with me easily if I know I am going to be away from Kinley for a period of time where she would need to eat. Because of my supply issues I need a pump that can do a letdown feature as well as that allows me to adjust the suction strength because I do not have the good problem of milk just leaking out it does take some work to get it. The Lansinoh Affinity Double Electric Breast Pump offers me both of these features With it’s one-touch let-down button and it’s adjustable suction controls. As well it allows me to adjust the speed of suction, with the Custom Expression Technology, so I can make it more like Kinley would be during feeding and slowdown or speed up the suction on it which is perfect and helps me draw more milk. The suction and the Custom Expression and are adjustable up to 8 suction and 6 cycle settings. Adjusting the two is simple, you press the +/- buttons to add suction or remove it. No touchy dials or worse yet no controls are no longer an issue for me.
I have actually only had this pump for about a week so far but have not had many opportunities to try it out but I will say that I have used it about 5-6 times and each time I was able to pump out about 4 ozs between both breasts, prior to using this pump and using my cheaper pump I was only able to get an oz combined so I can for sure see a difference between the abilities of the two pumps. The ComfortFit breast flanges offer a soft, secure fit. I actually think the standard ones that came with the Breast Pump are too small for me and I will be ordering the large sized ones to try them out, they are reasonably priced at $11.95 for just the flanges or you can buy a whole second collection kit that includes the flanges, valves, tubes, diaphragm, bottles and more for $39.95. The one thing I would change with the Lansinoh Affinity Double Electric Breast Pump is that I would have it come with a travel/carry bag to make it a bit more portable. But you can purchase a travel bag for it for $34.99 that comes with a bag for the breast pump, a bag for your expressed milk and an ice pack to keep the milk cold.
The Lansinoh pump has a few features that I do really love though beyond the one-touch let-down, the custom-expression technology and the adjustable suction. It is easy to clean which for me with five kids is huge I don’t have time to take a whole lot of time to clean a pump so I love the fact that it comes all apart and is dishwasher safe. It has built in bottle holders so you don’t have to worry about your bottle falling over and the precious milk to leak out. It comes with an ac adapter for operation but it can also be used with 6 AA batteries which helps to make it much more portable. Biggest of all though is that it is BPA free!
A hospital grade pump like this one is generally a very expensive pump. I have not been able to find one under $200 until now the Lansinoh Affinity Double Electric breast pump is priced at a very affordable $124.95 on Amazon.com or $127.03 on Walmart.com. You can also find it in select stores, simply use the store locator and enter your zip code to find out where you can buy the Lansinoh Affinity Double Electric Breast Pump.
