Leather Pocket Hobo Bag Review

I have to admit, I’m not a big purse girl. It’s rare that I find one that I like and am willing to actually carry more than once. But when Jessi showed me this purse at Peppermint Park by Sorial, I immediately fell in love with it. I had been using a purse that my sister in law brought back from Thailand, and while it’s beautiful, it wasn’t really practical. It was a small handbag and I wasn’t really able to have both my hands free when I needed to, or carry everything I needed to.

I have 5 kids and need a purse with lots of storage space. This one definitely fits that description. It has 2 small pockets on the front, which fit my cell phone and my keys perfectly, making them convenient to get to, as well as a large pocket. All 3 are zippered, which usually means I have time to rescue my purse from kids before they are able to open it. Inside, there is also a zippered pocket, as well as a large pocket and 2 smaller ones. The area inside is quite large and can fit 2 hardcover books and 11 individual Disney books along with my wallet (I’m slightly addicted to books, can you tell?), and everything else I usually keep in there.

The inside material is a bright and fun purple paisley. The material is lightweight and dries quickly if you accidentally spill something like water in it, not that I know that from experience or anything. I was a little worried that I would have a hard time finding what I need in the purse with the bright pattern, but I don’t normally keep anything that is purple paisley in my purse so it’s not hard to find anything at all. The purse also unzips quite a bit so you can see inside easily.

I found that it’s pretty easy to clean the outside of the purse. All I need to do is wipe with a damp cloth and it’s clean. This is especially convenient with many dirty hands helping me, or a 2 year old that likes to wear my purse everywhere. I’m also chronically uncoordinated, so when I trip on air and bang into something, I don’t have to be worried about my purse being dirty. Just my dignity.

I love the straps on the purse. They are adjustable and could be anything from very long to very short. They’re pretty easy to adjust, my 4 year old helped me. They are also pretty comfortable, although with 13 books inside it was kind of heavy and hurt a bit. Since carrying that many books around isn’t a normal activity, it’s not a problem. I have 2 straps on the purse, but they clip off so you could use just one or none at all if you are that adventurous.

Overall, I love this purse. I haven’t used my other one since I got it. It’s great when I have to run out the door, which seems to be always. I can shove everything I need in it and head out. It serves as a diaper bag for me frequently. I know I’m making it seem like it’s a large bag to lug around with you, but it’s really not. I’m amazed so much can fit into it without it feeling like I’m carrying around a suitcase. I plan to use it for a long time.

About Jen

I am a single mom of 5 energetic kids. They are Dominic aged 2, Charlotte 4, Lydia 5, Myles 7 and Violet 11. We are very involved with Girl Guides in our family, and like to play sports, be outside, go camping and swimming. I read a lot, knit, crochet, bake and draw. I like to try new things, and jump from one project to another. If it's something the kids can help me with, even better! Especially if it makes a mess. I wish I didn't end up doing the majority of the cleaning.

I like bags like this one b/c there are compartments to put specific things. Otherwise, I’d spend all my time searching then getting frustrated, giving up, and then changing bags! I, too, tried carrying a small clutch, but ended up having it stolen because I set it down.
    Thanks for the post.
