Safety 1st Complete Air Protect Carseat

Being on baby number 4 we have had our share of car seats, there is so many out there to choose form and like I mentioned in a previous review when we were looking for a seat for Maddisyn I was overwhelmed with the choices and options and ended up settling for a lower end carseat simply because of the cost and the cuteness factor.

Safety 1st has given us the chance to review the complete air convertible carseat in brown and orange, and since Holden got the last new one maddisyn got this one. The one She use to have fit her good and was very cute but was seriously lacking in comfort for her and after being in it for just a short period you could tell she wasnt comfortable in it and was starting to get cranky and let us know she wasn’t happy. The Safety 1st carseat is just the opposite, Maddisyn ahs done a few trips in it that were longer than jsut running to the store etc and she hasnt expressed her dislike even once yet which in it’s own is a great accomplishment.

When we removed the seat from the box we noticed the differences right away in her old one compared to this one. The Complete Air carseat was just so much more sturdy. So we took it and installed it into our van, it installed with very little problems which was surprising because our last one was a fight to install. I had to install with the seatbelt because I do not have the Latch system in my van, but my mother in law has it in hers and we move the carseats easily between the two because of it.

I sometimes take my niece places with me and she has to use one of my carseats which was a big issue for me because I would have to take the carseat out, adjust the strap height then reinstall it before we could go. Now I can simply adjusted it with thge quickfit harness system that are in the front of the carseat at the top by the headrest.  The carseat has a five point harness that just screams safety to a mom like me who tends to worry a lot over carseat safety despite the fact that I have never been in an accident with my kids int he car.

Asside from being comfortably padded and obviously looking like a superior car seat compared to her last one it make us as Parents feel better as well. the safety first complete air car seat looks safer and through proven studies defenitly IS SAFER. Over the past 20 years, side impact crash fatalities have increased by 20% and 1 of 3 children involved in a side impact crash results in a fatality. The Air Protect™ system works to protect your child in two vital ways. In a side impact collision, Air Protect™ immediately safeguards your child by diminishing the forces if the crash. In a second layer of defense, the system allows air to escape from the headrest: channeling more crash energy away from your child. It is this double layer of protection that makes Air Protect™ technology unique. Aside from these great features the complete air convertible carseat offers.

•Rear Facing; 5-40 lbs, Forward Facing; 22-50 lbs
•Air Protect – Revolutionary Side impact Protection
•QuickFit harness system
•5-point harness with up-front harness adjustment
•Removable, washable pad
•Latch system with easy click-in and release

The following was taken directly from the Safety 1st website about the Air Protect carseat

What is Air Protect™ Technology?

Air Protect™ Technology is the most innovative safety feature ever offered in a car seat. It is a technology that protects our children at their most vulnerable – the head.
How does Air Protect™ work?

Through the precise release of air, Air Protect™ shields children from side impact intrusion and immediately reduces crash forces at the most critical spot: around a child’s head. Air Protect™ does this by extending ride-down, the amount of time it takes to slow a child’s movement in a crash.

How is Air Protect™ different?

1. Primary Focus on Head Protection

Air Protect™ Technology has been designed to defend against the biggest threat to children on the road today; side impact collisions. Side impact are by far the deadliest type of collision for children, accounting for one in three child fatalities; nearly all of which are caused by head trauma. The placement of Air Protect™ Technology on the car seat diverts crash forces away from a child’s head, the most vulnerable place in a side impact crash.

2. Superior Testing Methodology

The Complete Air™ Convertible Car Seat is tested with an intruding door technique, which best replicates an actual side impact crash. Dorel Juvenile Group (DJG) collaborated with Kettering University’s renowned Crash Safety Center to develop a new standard for side impact testing. This new testing method is so significant that DJG and Kettering University have shared their findings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), supporting NHTSA’s efforts to provide more comprehensive regulations for side impact crash testing.

The Safety 1st Complete air carseat is available from Toys R Us or from Amazon.

My main concern when I have a child is their head. This car seat sounds amazing. I work with a child who has CP and she has a Britax and her head control isn’t the greatest and I see her flop a little more than I’d like. This car seat sounds like a great investment for your child’s safety!
