We are a very tech savvy family, Holden at age 2 can use my iPad almost better then I can haha. Maddy is a whiz at both the iPad and the iPhone and we fight constantly over them (because they are mine and I want them to read, work or play games). Maddy uses my iPad for playing games but she also uses it a lot for reading and practicing her letter drawing. Now thanks to the VTech V.Reader I can have my iPad back and Maddisyn can have her own reading system that allows her to do all that and I feel safer because it is made for her little hands to play with and is not as heavy or as fragile as my iPad.
The VTech V.Reader is an interactive learning system that is designed for kids ages 3 to 7. It comes in two color combinations of orange and blue or two toned pink. The system brings books to life with it’s story telling learning system. Kids can touch and play as they learn core reading skills, touch the screen to read the story, and play interactive reading games.
With the V.Reader Interactive E-Reading System Maddisyn has figured out that she can read her own books and she loves to lay on her tummy on her bed and read her books on her very own reader. We did get it in the blue/orange this way Holden can share it to so I am quite happy with that and so is Lee who prefers we get stuff like this more neutral. There are animations and sounds with the V.Reader and it has a color touch screen which is perfect, it also comes with a small stylus type pen that slides into a spot in the bottom of the reader for safe storage when not in use. Maddisyn has discovered a letter tracing app on the V.Reader that is allowing her to perfect writing her M’s which is where she is at in her name.
The V.Reader came pre-loaded with What’s That Noise which is a storybook and has other great applications Maddisyn loves like art activities, video player, photo viewer and more. It is easy enough that Holden while he does not get the reading part does get on it to do the art stuff etc. if we help him get there. You can buy more storybook cartridges each sold separately which give your child a whole new world of fun to play in. They have cartridges with characters such as Scooby Doo, Dora, Shrek, Toy Story 3, Cars, Princess and so many more. On top of the cartridges you can buy in a store you can also download more e-books, avatars and themes for the V.Reader as well as track your child’s progress on the VTech Learning Lodge Navigator.

My favorite unmentioned feature above though is that it has a headphone jack and so when we are in the car and Maddisyn wants this and Holden wants a movie I can just plug a pair of headphones in and they are both happy without mom going crazy, voila simple solution that is moms best friend.
My least favorite is that the V.Reader does require 4AA batteries for power and we have already had to change the batteries twice in the reader due to use from at least two kids. I do wish it had rechargeable batteries in it or I could get a power cord for it, there is one available for the car but not for the home that I can find. Also the battery cover slides off very easily and we have lost it once already, I really wish it screwed on like the slot for the memory card does.
You can also buy storage cases for the V.Reader which is an easy way for the reader to travel with your child without worrying about it getting dropped in rain or snow etc. It is easy to open and close and can be worn like a backpack.
When all is said and done I would highly recommend this for other parents looking for something for their kids to help them learn to reader, write and interact more. The V.Reader is currently on sale for $49.99 at the time of this writing but the regular price is $59.99
